Why Do They Make Some Drugs Illegal but Not Others?

Question by MthrNatures_Son: Why do they make some drugs illegal but not others?
I remember how great Ephedra was…an herb that could speed up the metabolism, cause you to lose weight, give you increased energy. Then a couple people got heart attacks and died or something…it was maybe a handful of people out of millions who took it. It was taken off the market

Same thing with Viox…excellent way to alleviate back troubles. A few people had problems, they removed it.

Marijuana may reduce some types of cancer cells, help people eat, help people manage pain, yet no one has really died from it.

Recent News Stories State Doctors Prescribing Placebos to Patients. I Tried Searching for Which Medicines.?

Question by Joan S: Recent news stories state doctors prescribing placebos to patients. I tried searching for which medicines.?
I found out clinical trials use placebos that LOOK like real pills, obtained directly from the drug companies. What medicines are suspect as being placebos? Are prescriptions written a certain way to indicate to the pharmacy to use a placebo instead of the real medicines? A medicine I used several years ago doesn’t seem to have the same effect. If I change pharmacies, will I get something different?
How do I find out the medicine I am taking now is real and not a placebo? I would like to know what medicines are the doctors giving placebos?

Would Legalizing Marijuana Be Good for the Economy and Society?

Question by Chi Guy: Would legalizing marijuana be good for the economy and society?
I included society due to an arrest record for having marijuana often prevent people from obtaining meaningful work for the rest of their lives.

Also, if private industry still wishes not to retain people who have mj in their system, wouldn’t this become a private-sector issue only vs a government issue (less government)?

What are your thoughts?
Also, would it not free up our police departments to focus on more serious crimes?
Jason H (below) Due to asthma, I have never smoked anything. I wouldn’t even if I didn’t have asthma.
Keith S (below) I prefer logic over fear when it comes to making decisions.
