SHAWNEE, Okla. — A Tecumseh man arrested in connection with a Mexican methamphetamine ring last year was set for trial Monday but instead chose to plead guilty to eight felony counts.
Formal sentencing for Jesus Ceniceros Jr., 35, is now set for June 29, court records show.
Ceniceros was charged in Pottawatomie County District Court in April 2010 with aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs, accused of possessing one or more pounds of methamphetamine. He also was charged with two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs; two counts of unlawful distribution of controlled drug; two counts of unlawful use of a telecommunication device to commit a felony; and acquire proceeds from drug activity.
Ceniceros was scheduled for trial this term. Last Wednesday, he appeared in court briefly, where minutes show he withdrew his not guilty plea and pleaded guilty. But before that hearing was over, he changed his mind and decided to take his case to trial on Monday.
Before proceedings Monday, Ceniceros decided to plead guilty in the case.
A translator was needed during all of the proceedings. Ceniceros, who remains jailed at the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center until formal sentencing next month, also has a hold listed from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, jail rosters show.
Ceniceros was arrested April 13, 2010, and subsequent charges in this case followed a year-long investigation into a Mexican methamphetamine ring. That probe was being conducted by the District 23 Drug Task Force, along with the state’s Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.
After conducting several undercover drug buys, agents raided his home west of Tecumseh. Their action reportedly cut off a major supply of drugs in Pottawatomie, Pontotoc and Seminole counties, agents said.
With the case, authorities also seized nearly seven pounds of methamphetamine valued at about $ 150,000.
