Question by name: What are the long-term effects of casual alcohol consumption in minors?
My boyfriend was hospitalized two weeks ago because of some delusions he had been having. He was in the hospital for five days while the doctors evaluated him. The week before he was admitted he had been drinking energy drinks, getting drunk, taking vitamin B pills, smoking pot and cigarettes, and getting as little sleep as possible. He had no real explanations as to why he started abusing all of these substances. He had been acting very aggressive, impatient, and impulsive just before taking all of these things. I told him he should go to a therapist but he said he didn’t want to and that’s when things started getting worse. The substances just magnified everything. After he was detoxified they let him leave the hospital, put him on three medications (tranquilizers and anti-depressants), and he later spoke very deeply against the substances he was putting into his body. We all thought he was going back to normal but last night he went to the beach and started drinking alcohol. His sister ended up calling the police and he was escorted to the hospital. His behavior is very out of the ordinary, he has always liked to drink but never let it effect the rest of his life. Last night I was talking to a friend, who has dealt with alcoholic relatives, and he suggested that the alcohol could have effected his brain. My boyfriend is only 16 and I know he has been drinking since he was very young so I thought this could be a good theory.
