Am I Getting Depressed Again?

Question by Fly girl: Am I getting depressed again?
Every morning I wake up with huge knots in my stomach, anxiety, apprehension and dread. I always oversleep. For the last month, I have been late to work every single day and I just feel so out of it. I took the day off today and it is the only time on a recent weekday I almost feel like a normal human being.

I know part of my depression is my career. I am a teacher. This school year might be one of the worst ones I’ve ever had. Now I am working in a special education classroom with children that have serious emotional/behavioral problems. I’ve had supervisors harassing me and even a paraprofessional who was out to get me this year. The last few months have really been bad. Teaching has been so horrible that one day I will write a book detailing what I have gone through.

On top of my teaching job, I work in an early intervention program where I have enormous paperwork and traveling as well as dealing with constant paycuts and unreliable people.

At one point I was having problems in my marriage (only been married 11 months) but things have been better for the last few months.

And to top it off, I’m getting ready to move, go on vacation, buy a car and furniture, go back to do another graduate degree in a different field, and maybe have children. None of these things are cheap and the financial part of it really strains me even though I don’t have to pay for these things alone. Anyway…..I feel so anxious everyday and like I’ve lost all sense of reality.

What should I do???? I used to see a therapist and wondering if I should go back because I am feeling like Sh1t almost everyday now.

I think you should see a doctor. Having stomach problems and oversleeping could be an underlying physical health problem rather than a mental one so I recommend getting checked out first. If the doctor gives you the all clear, then go back to the therapist and start talking through your problems. It’s good that you are going back to college to specialise in a different field as hopefully you are doing a less stressful field so you won’t be as anxious. You may be suffering from anxiety rather than depression so that’s another reason why you should see your doctor first. Get an accurate diagnosis to take to your therapist and they’ll be able to work with you better and focus their attention on the right problem.

Hope life gets better for you soon! 🙂
