Opiate/Suboxone Addiction.?
Question by John: Opiate/Suboxone addiction.?
Long story short here. I was going through mild opiate withdrawal. Heard suboxone helped out so I got two 8mg pills. Knowing it was wrong, I still snorted them over a 6-7 day period. It did wonders for the withdrawal symptoms though. Also knowing I could get addicted to the suboxone, I took some one last time on a Monday night. Felt fine all Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon I started to feel symptoms again. Did I become addicted to the suboxone in such little time?

John, listen to me, I know tons about Suboxone. No, you didn’t become physically hooked on it in 10 days with 16 mg. It takes more and a little longer for that to occur. BUT the Buprenorphine in Suboxone has a 48 hour half life. That means it takes 2 days for 1/2 to start to wear off and another 2 days before you will feel most of the results of it wearing off. It still takes another week or 2 for it to get out of you. That is assuming you don’t keep taking more. It only takes 3 to 4 weeks to get physically hooked and since you’re already opiate dependent it can feel like it happened faster. It feels like it, but it didn’t. What is going to happen is you just prolonged the withdrawal symptoms (wds) you would have had, by taking Suboxone. Btw, Methadone does that too. Both of those drugs prolong the agony of wds. So don’t use neither one again. Those drugs are not meant to be a quick fix drug. Those drugs are only of use to someone who is so physically and mentally addicted that they can’t stop, or can no longer get what they need, or they can’t handle the high doses they reached. Even with pain you can get to taking so much of an opiate and for so long that you can’t stand taking it anymore, but you also can’t stay without it due to the wds. That’s when you use Suboxone, and only then. Not after taking Vicodin or Percocet for several months nor even several years. It’s almost always easier to detox off the regular short term opiates, than to detox off Suboxone or Methadone. It takes years to get off them, once you’re fully physically and mentally dependent. I hope this helped.
