What Steps and Procedures Are Needed for a Person to Receive SSI in California?

Question by : What steps and procedures are needed for a person to receive SSI in California?
A friend of ours has been “homeless” for numerous years. We assisted with payment for only one month’s rent at a low-quality hotel. I doubt he will be able to “come up” with another month’s rent or even a week’s worth of rent. Further, he seems to have certain amount of brain damage due to alcohol use. He has difficulties with memory, anxiety as well as knee, neck and back pain. Therefore, I seek any and all information, guidance, resources on SSI or other possible sources or agencies.

Please, only serious answers. Thank you.

Other than that, Calif Dept of Human Services may be of assistance.
